The bonding with the island will begin from the port of Merichas, which nowadays constitutes the main port of Kythnos. Despite the fuzziness, Merichas’s gulf still remains beautiful with crystal clear waters, appropriate for fishing & even swimming. Merichas has each kind of facilities for tourists’s accommodation, rest, & entertainment, such as a great amount of hotels & rooms to let, many scenic taverns, restaurants, bars, coffee shops in order to ensure & guarantee the best of time during summer holidays. Sunset here, especially from Markos’s bluff may be the most beautiful in Cyclades.
In the island of Kythnos there are many beautiful beaches which locals call them “furrows” (“avlakia”). Beaches that have beautiful seashores & sand as well as traditional taverns like Flambouria, Episkopi, Lefkes, Schoinari, Aghios Dimitris. In all these beaches you can find taverns which host friends and tourists. The island has numerous beaches ideal for family as well as for youthful vacations. Kythnos has three major cities, each of them with its own kind of charm. The capital, for example, Hora, is a beautiful mix of red roofs and Cycladic cube-shaped houses. It's not as ravishing as other Cycladic capitals, but it struggles to get there. Dryopida has red-tiled roofs as well, along with winding streets. It's a picturesque town that used to be the island's capital in the Middle Ages. As for Merihas, it's a typical Greek fishing harbor, a laid-back, cheerful and tidy place. Kythnos, quiet and barren, has a dramatic, rugged interior that makes it ideal for walking.
MESSARIA (CHORA)
It is the capital of the island, with amphitheatrical view, built around the 17th century, is a beautiful settlement with an intense Cycladic Arcitecture, narrow alleys and stone houses.
DRYOPIS
From the port of Merichas, an asphalt road leads to Dryopis, whose name reminds us of the first inhabitants of the island Dryopes.
In Kanala there is a small church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, with icons of healing powers.
