One of the most beautiful Greek islands, with a surprisingly cosmopolitan atmosphere despite the fact that the island is only 4 sq. km. It is a quiet island and you can see it in no time. The locals are friendly and hospitable and they are waiting to welcome you in their unique way. Koufonissi can also offer small bays where you sometimes find yourself entirely on your own
At the upper Koufonisi, to the northwest you will find Parianos, a cove with a wide sandy beach well protected from the winds and a favorite harbor for the picturesque small fishing boats. It is the generous wide harbor beach with clear shallow waters a short distance from the village which is preferred by the locals, children and anyone not wishing to go too far. With little else to see or anywhere else to walk to on the island you need to be a keen sunworshipper to want to stay for more than a couple of days and because the quality of the beaches are no secret these are probably very crowded indeed during high season. You won't get much solitude in September either but with beaches like these, you may note care.
The Koufonissi islands are reached by many boats all year round but mainly by the "Skopelitis" a great boat which makes the round of all the nearby islands in any kind of weather. It starts from Naxos at lunchtime and after Heraklia, Schoinoussa, it stops at Koufonissi and ends up at Amorgos island from which it makes its return trip with Naxos as its final destination.
In cases of emergency, or if you happen to miss your boat, you can always cross with one of the small local "taxi" boats from Volakas port, a small port situated on the eastern coast of Naxos island. You can reach Volakas by taxi and it is approximately 50 km. From there to Koufonissi it is another 20 minutes. For further information, contact 22850 71438.
