Kimolos

It is a popular island amongst the Greeks, but has not really been discovered by the foreign tourists yet.
Kimolos is a quiet, untainted island with plenty of beaches and freelance camping. Kimolos is rocky and barren, a volcanic island with patches of green. According to the legend Kimolos was given her name by its first resident, Kimolos.

Chorio is the capital of the island and is built on the foot of mount Xaplovouni. It is situated in the south-eastern part of the island and is 1km far from the port called Psathi. You will see the white washed houses with their blue windows and the yards which are pure samples of the Aegean architecture, while the paved narrow streets offered for the famous “vegera”.
Kimolos, together with unhabited Polyaigos, forms one of the most important habitats for the Mediterranean Seal in the whole world (more information at the office of MOM a few steps from the House in the Castle) and is also a site protected by "NATURA 2000" (the network of ecologically important regions in Europe), due to its abundance of rare flora.

Kimolos is located on the southwestern edge of Cyclades. It is at a distance of 87 nautical miles from the port of Piraeus, with which is connected with conventional ships and speedboats. The distance is covered from 4.5 to 7.5 hours, depending on the ship, since it also stops at the islands Kithnos, Serifos, Sifnos and probably Milos.
