
Even today in Karpathos can be found alive the folk tradition. The local songs, accompanied by traditional instruments like tsampouna, the lyra and the lauto you will often hear at weddings and festivals, in local cafes and restaurants. The northern part is totally unspoiled and very authentic, with various traditional and picturesque villages. The waters around Karpathos are so clean that the Mediterranean seal "Monachus-Monachus" chose to live here.
The city of Karpathos is located in the southeast side of the island. Excursions can take place in the south, the northwest and central Karpathos. In the summer, during the tourist season there are numerous daytime and nighttime activities. Many small shops, restaurants and supermarkets operate during the day and evening hours. Many tavernas and clubs operate till about 4 o'clock in the morning.
Othos is the highest village of Karpathos, about 12 km from Pigadia. The Folk Museum of Karpathos is located here, where you can see what a traditional Karpathian home looks like
The village of Olympos is the most famous village of Karpathos, as it is known for maintaining traditions that are hundreds of years old. Anyone visiting Karpathos must spend a few hours in this village. There are many shops with souvenirs, as well as several excellent restaurants. One restaurant, located in one of the windmills, serves Karpathian dishes that are baked in a traditional oven.
