Chora is the main tourist resort in Astipalea. The Querini Castle, on a hill overlooking the whole village, is one of the most famous attractions on the island. Astypalaia hora is surrounded by sky, overlooking the sea and leads to the village as the slope leading at Pera Gialo. White houses and picturesque streets begin from the port of Pera Yialos, climbing up the hill, meeting Chora and leading to the Venetian Castle.
Livadi is the island's flowerbed. A most fertile village with gardens of vines, mandarin and orange trees and houses dressed in veils of flowers. You enjoy your swim in this big beach, while cafeterias and taverns with traditional dishes and fresh fishes wait for you.
At the serene site of Mesa Vathi, a beautiful church, a tavern, a few houses, and a few fishing boats at the small dock can be seen. The visitor can reach Vathi either from the passable dirt road or by the boat which conducts frequent trips from Vai.
In the northern part of the island there is a large and totally safe harbour with a small settlement called Maltezana or Analipsi. Maltezana Astypalea probably got its name from the Maltese pirates who used the bay as a safe hideout. The houses are scattered in a valley with green gardens, fertile farms with vegetables and flowers.
