Vacances dans les îles grecques : toutes les informations pour bien préparer votre voyage

Amorgos

This Greek island has a lot to offer: beautiful beaches in crystal waters, whitewashed houses and windmills...Amorgos is by no means a commercialised island, though, and it is truly an excellent place for relaxing. Amorgos: one of the most dramatic and impressive Greek Islands and a popular holiday destination for those who want a different, alternative style of vacation, in a relaxing and soothing setting.

ACCOMMODATIONS IN AMORGOS ISLAND

Amorgos is the Eastern of the Cyclades islands and is the closest island to the Dodecanese.
Katapola is the main harbor of the island. At Katapola is located the famous church of Katapoliani that is built on top an acient temple to Apollo.

Aegiali is the second harbor of the island. It is a beautiful village with maginificent beaches. Until recently it was easier to reach Aigiali by sea, than the road to Chora, but now the road is greatly improved.

Chora is magical setlement and chances are that you get caught under its charm. Small pathways, wonderful windmills and the calm nature of another life, lost back in the 19th century.

ACCOMMODATIONS IN AMORGOS ISLAND

Chora, capital of the island of Amorgos, one of the most beautiful and best preserved of the entire archipelago, is located in the central eastern part of the island. Chora is a snow-white village, surrounded by hills.

The village of Egiali is pretty and has a couple of nice landmarks in the harbour, but it's not so overwhelmingly impressive that you will walk around in it for hours and hours. The beach is very good though, long and with good sand. It also has a small Venetian ruin standing on it. There's plenty of accomodation to choose from and lots of pensions and studios for rent at a reasonable price. The only bank on Amorgos is on the other side of the island in Katapola though, so make sure you bring some cash on arrival (in 2002, so this might have changed by now - no clue).

The astonishing Monastery of Hozoviotissa -the pride of Amorgos- is remarkable and seems been pressed on the cliff 300 meters above the sea.

Amorgos has some very nice beaches though the majority of them are rocky. Some of the more popular beaches on the island include those found at Aegliali, Glyfada and Levrosos.

On the small island of Nikouria near to Aegilia are a lovely collection of beaches, which you can easily reach by boat.
